Do You Know Where I'm From?

This is just up the street from my house.

It was nice to have a break this week. My grandpa had this extra camera and he gave it to me. Maybe there'll be more pictures on here from now on. Either way, these pictures are just here to let you know who I is.

Just Because You Can Do It, Doesn't Make It Art

On Saturday we went to Salt Lake to go to the Temple and while we were there we went to the "U of U." We had heard they were going to have an Andy Warhol exhibit. It was a pretty interesting exhibit. I don't know how many of the pieces were the originals, but it was cool anyways. As I was sitting there, I thought of a famous line from Keats' poem Ode on a Grecian Urn where he says "Beauty is truth, truth beauty." Certainly Warhol's work is not the most complicated or difficult to create. And who really cares about that? I was looking at another exhibit that showed some early Christian martyrs kneeling in final prayer in the Coliseum as the lions were brought in. Although the painting was a very lifelike rendering of the event, I don't think it was that quality that drew me in. It was the pathos, the feeling, that affected me. Isn't that what art is about? Art helps us to communicate the incommunicable. It carries the great messages of life. Like Keats' explained:
When old age shall this generation waste,
Thou shalt remain, in midst of other woe

Than ours, a friend to man,...

Some friends to man.

Its so easy, even an ERC can do it (Thanks eric, it you had been born about 70 years ago, I'm sure you would have taken his spot in history)

P.I.G.

So, I consider myself a law abiding citizen, but I guess I'm wrong. Last Thursday night I thought I'd shave 10 minutes off of my return trip from school and skateboard home. As I was about a block away, a nice fellow in a dark car pulled alongside me and asked, "what makes you think you have the right to ride that in the street?" I was at a loss. Wasn't this America? I didn't respond, it wouldn't have made a difference. I sat and was lectured on "the Law" by a pseudo cop for about ten minutes. He tried to explain the location of campus and why my activities were illegal (although he never did explain where exactly campus is no matter how many times I asked him). After he had ran out of steam (and hopefully noticed that I was not arguing with him) he decided to let me off with a warning. He then added, "I understand where you're comin' from. Why, if I could do that..." No, officer, you don't understand where I'm coming from. I'm just trying to get home. But of course he's a cop, and who understands the criminal element more than them?

My good friend Aaron made this film. He's trying to get in the film program here at the "Y". In my book, he's already in. When Stevie walks in, his smile is just killer. I don't want him to have second thoughts but, I think he could have really been something in Hollywood.

Other than that, this is how I spent my week.
